(i’d love to hear your thoughts as i too contemplate these questions.)
This fits in with something I have been pondering and commenting on for awhile now. When we say we have ‘lost’ something, it often has a connotation that it is a bad thing. So, somehow I think we should change the vernacular for weight, too. Instead of ‘losing’ weight, can we change it somehow, to a positive…..like ‘gaining health’? And ‘gaining’ weight for most would be a trend towards poorer health, so instead call it ‘losing health’. I know it is probably impossible. There just is not the right word combination that conveys my thoughts on this. But the abortion issue went from ‘pro-abortion’ to ‘pro-choice’ so maybe we can craft some word combination that turns the emotional tables?
interesting angle, becki.
i have actually read elsewhere about reframing the phrase “weight loss” to make it more palatable (pun intended).
more along the lines of what you suggested, such as “gaining health.”
i like the concept, and would probably extend it even further.
perhaps not focusing on the weight at all, but on the emotional reasons behind it.
in other words, when you are truly happy inside, the external stuff tends to fall into place on its own.
