unequivocally mindful

what does it really and truly mean . . .

1) to be mindful?
2) to live in the present?
3) to not dwell in the past?
4) to not worry about the future?
5) to revel in the moment?

well, when you are in a foreign-to-you country, in the midst of . . .

1) planning a retreat in your home
2) renovating a large house
3) buying a car
4) struggling with the language
5) trying to complete immigration requirements

you don’t have the time or the energy to do anything EXCEPT . . .

1) be fully conscious
2) have complete awareness of your surroundings
3) engage in deep self-reflection
4) learn to accept that life is forever unpredictable
5) savor each and every profound moment

i’ve tried to embrace these concepts for years.
and i’ve certainly recommended these practices to clients.

but the total impact of their importance,
the compelling significance of their immediacy,
never attained such clarity . . .

until my move to italy.

now i unequivocally understand.
now i unequivocally exist.
