to confront or to cocoon

sometimes it’s important to confront,
to speak out.
it’s important to deal with pressing issues,
and mindfully set out to resolve our problems.

to wear bold colors
and begin the dialogue.

other times it’s necessary to cocoon,
to sit with things.
it’s necessary to analyze difficult situations,
and gently explore and decompress our emotions.

to cozy up on the sofa in pastels
and nurture our mental health.

i’m in cocoon mode at present,
settling back in after a busy two weeks
sharing daily life in italy
with family on holiday from the states.

revisiting keep-me-up-at-night concerns,
though no solutions are currently at the ready.
processing a few exciting new ideas,
while generating plans to implement them.

sometimes feeling capable and strong,
other times delicate and vulnerable.
still many steps backward in this life-that-i’ve-chosen,
but incrementally inching forward.

always reaching toward the light.
