hey! i have an idea!
why don’t we leave our family and friendsĀ (including our 2 sons) and move to a foreign country, where we will be totally overwhelmed by a new culture and a new language?
and let’s take it one step further and go through the slow, complicated immigration process to stay legal and become residents (and eventually citizens).
while we’re at it, we could also restore most of a 6700 square foot villa all by ourselves (except maybe for a few extra woman-hours a week). c’mon, it’ll be fun!
and maybe we’ll get so used to living in utter chaos that it won’t even seem strange that we always have paint on our bodies and dust on our clothes. and furniture. and food. and cats. (plus aches and pains and cuts and scrapes and bruises on every inch of our frames.)
we might as well throw in planning and marketing a 5-day retreat too. just in case we have any extra energy.
oh, and let’s try to do all of this in, say . . . 8 months. because we might feel like giving ourselves an additional challenge.
let’s also be certain to experience fear and elation and loneliness and excitement and doubt and satisfaction and bewilderment and pure joy. all at once. sometimes teeter-tottering between extremes several times in a single day.
yes, it does sound hard and crazy and scary.
(but maybe, just possibly, a taste of delicious too.)
okay, let’s try it. let’s go!
guess what?
only TWO WEEKS left.
and we’re so very-very-close to being done with all of the above.
WE.REALLY.ARE.GOING.TO.DO.IT.
we are almost to the end of our climb.

I love Steve Job’s quote. It is one of my favorite. Going to a foreign country while leaving family and friends behind can be overwhelming, but you already did it and you come out very strong. You are such am inspiration for us April!
