i bought a christmas card last week.
not because i had anyone in mind to give it to.
but because i really loved it.
i wondered through the week who i might send it to.
since i’d stopped writing christmas cards years ago.
deep down i knew though.
i wanted to keep the card.
for myself.
so i wrote a nice sentiment inside.
and then taped it into my journal.
and you know what?
i absolutely love looking at it and reading it.
again and again.
it makes me happy.
it reminds me that i like . . . being me.

what better holiday message could possibly be sent,
when you are in the process of exploring and discovering who you are,
than the message of self-love?
tell me about a time that you called yourself “friend.”
i’d love to hear your inspiring stories.
Merry Christmas!
I believe loving yourself is the first step to true happiness! Thanks for posting April, this is such a wonderful idea and a small gesture one can do for themselves!
merry christmas to you too, megan! and beautifully stated – “loving yourself is the first step to true happiness.”
I love this”‘ thanks so much for all of your inspiration throughout The Ahimsa Project. This card was such a beautiful idea!!! Merry Christmas April!!
thank you, jenny. π and i loved the ahimsa project! such a positive and much needed message you are sending out.
This is fantastic. It’s so important to love yourself.
I don’t think many people actually show it to themselves though, including myself.
We tend to not do things for ourselves and focus on others – it’s good to focus on helping others, but it’s also good to do nice things for ourselves.
I love this post and that card is gorgeous xx
you’re right, phillipa. not many people shower themselves with the same love and care they give to others. i hope you begin doing lots of nice little things for yourself in 2014. π
I love this! Such a simple but powerful concept. Thanks for the idea, self-love is something I need to focus more on. xo
simple is difficult at times. i hope you are able to focus on more self-love in 2014, karen – you deserve it!
This is so beautiful April. It is particularly special as I’ve been doing a lot of self-love and self-belief practice of late. Keep shining your beautiful, loving light. X.
thank you, marg. and i’m so happy to hear that you are aware of the importance of practicing self-love.
Love this, April. I have a whole box of unsent cards that I have purchased because they make me laugh out loud. Now I purchase two. One for me and one to send.
oh, sue ann – me too! π i also buy cards that i would have sent to my beloved mom (before she passed away. it makes me feel closer to her. thanks for visiting.
Such a great idea!
Loving kindness (for yourself) – sometimes it’s the last thing we think about when we should be putting it first.
Thank you for the inspiration.
so true, susie. why do we often put ourselves last? loving oneself is a powerful path to not only accomplishing goals, but also to loving others with more genuineness and intensity.
April, this is so simply gorgeous…and to answer your question “not often enough!” I AM an amazing friend, lover, daughter, and you’ve inspired me to write a love note to myself today to celebrate all the wonderful parts of myself that I often overlook. Thank you for this post-Christmas “gift!”
wonderful self-love statement, sabrina! thank you for sharing it here. and let me know when you’ve finished that love note to yourself.
What a lovely thought…great inspiration for 2014!
very glad to hear that you were inspired, cori. happy 2014!
