letting in the light

monday was my birthday.
and i have to admit . . .
it was somewhat startling to think about how many years i’ve lived.

for you see, i’ve reached an age that never seemed possible.
an age i remember my parents being not so very long ago.
(and all those other middle-aged folks i used to know.)

but. surely. not. me.

oh, i know i’m getting older.
my sons are young men now.
my body and skin are changing.
and a few things are harder to do.
(little things, like seeing and hearing.)

but the thing is . . .
i don’t feel my age.
and i don’t usually “act” my age either.
(whatever that may look like!)
i sincerely think of myself as 20 years younger.

but . . . i’m NOT 20 years younger.

and actually?
that may just be the most exciting thing about my current age.
i’ve had time to acquire many amazing experiences on this journey.
and perhaps a bit of wisdom too.

my career (and my life) are branching out in new and interesting directions.
i’m busy traveling, dreaming, creating, scheming.

and i feel more alive than ever before.

so the moral of this story?
we’ve all heard it before.
the message is simple, but TRUE:

  • CRAFT YOUR LIFE EXACTLY THE WAY YOU WANT IT TO BE
(we never know how much time we have to live it)
  • REMEMBER THAT IT IS NEVER TOO LATE WHILE WE’RE STILL BREATHING
(we need to let in as much light as possible)

*******

i am determined to perfect the art of selfies.
(now that they’re probably going out of style.)

here are a few attempts at me letting in the light.
(because you’re never too old to laugh at yourself.)
