free. healed. whole. (a meditation)

close your eyes, and
take a long deep breath.

in through your nose,
out through your mouth.

repeat the process.
a third time as well.

then . . .
when you release
that last breath . . .

also release any
pain or tension or sorrow
you might be carrying around.

of course,
you won’t be able to
completely erase it all.

but you can rid yourself
of the sharpest pangs,
lurking right at the surface.

and in that moment,
shift your thinking.

“i am free.
i am healed.
i am whole.”

open your eyes,
and ground yourself.

using your five senses,
truly notice your surroundings.

what can you see?
say it out loud.

what can you feel?
touch it with both hands.

what can you hear?
listen to it carefully.

what can you smell?
inhale the aroma of its scent.

and finally,
close your eyes once more.

what emotion can you taste?
digest the message of its essence.

take another cleansing breath.
slow, long, deep.

in through your nose,
out through your mouth.

three times total.

then . . .
open your eyes
and smile . . .

“i am free.
i am healed.
